Applications are invited for a full-time 3-year studentship for the PhD in Health Sciences within the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York, commencing October 2014. The studentship requires a candidate with a range of methodological skills, and this range is more important than the disciplinary background of the student.

Studentship for PhD in Health Sciences

Applications are invited for a full-time 3-year studentship for the PhD in Health Sciences within the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York, commencing October 2014.

Hunger, austerity and ethnicity

This studentship will focus on ethnic differences in families’ food security, hunger and use of food banks in Bradford and the distribution and organization of food banks and related services in the city. The Born in Bradford family cohort study will be used as a platform for both quantitative and qualitative studies. The objectives will be to map food banks and related services in Bradford, describe the prevalence of food poverty, hunger and use of food banks and explore in depth, using quantitative and qualitative methods, families’ experiences of food poverty and hunger, and the pressures that shape their strategies to balance food and non-food spending.

The studentship requires a candidate with a range of methodological skills, and this range is more important than the disciplinary background of the student. The student will join the Public Health & Society research group in the Department of Health Sciences.
