We are delighted to announce that Kersten England’s special guest lecture at The York Management School was a great success!   Kersten, Chief Executive of the City of York Council’s, offered management students the chance to join her for a presentation entitled ‘Leading Change in the Public Sector - ‘Big State’ to ‘Big Society’.

Kirsten England shared her thinking about one of the most radical shifts in the operating context for local government in recent times. In her lecture the Chief Executive of the City of York Council explored this context and the leadership required if local authorities are to fulfil their essential purpose of securing prosperity for local communities whilst managing an average 30% reduction in funding for service delivery over the next four years.   In particular the move from 'big state' to 'big society', the emphasis on localism and deregulation and the imperative to rebalance the economy and grow the private sector was examined.

Many students from a wide variety of programmes attended the event and were very enthusiastic to take up this exciting opportunity.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Kersten for visiting The York Management School and for her fantastic presentation which has generated very positive feedback from those students and staff who attended.
