IBM Strategic Management Masterclass

Led by Steve Wood, Vice-President, Strategy for IBM UK and Ireland (UKI), the York Management School Strategic Management Masterclass was given to masters students on 26 January in the Boardroom of the Law and Management Building.

Steve leads the UKI Transformation programme which aims to drive growth to deliver maximum market impact and has responsibility for integrating global corporate and business unit strategies to grow IBM’s business in the United Kingdom & Ireland.

A strategy consultant by profession, Steve has many years experience in corporate transformation, mergers, acquisitions and turnaround first in Coopers & Lybrand in London and New York and PriceWaterhouseCoopers Consulting.

His Masterclass was based on his experience in leading strategy and change projects for clients.   He discussed global strategic frameworks in the context of IBM's Smarter Planet strategy and worked through a range of client case studies looking at how to approach a corporate transformation and how to decide what is relevant to implement when adapting a global strategy locally.  His clients include Aviva, Diageo, Pepsico, AT&T, BT, YEG, MyTravel, Virgin Media, Samsung, Reed Elsevier, GE, BP, and Shell.
