Service Operations Management and Sustainability: Cases and Research Opportunities in China
In this presentation, Prof. Zhao will first introduce the background of industry transformation in China, especially the challenges that traditional “Made in China” mode faced. He will then show several case studies of Chinese companies that have successfully transformed their business through supply chain and business model innovations, and describe the influence of Internet and ICT on these industry transformations and the new trend of “Made in Internet”. More specifically, Prof. Zhao will show one ongoing study of this “Made in Internet” phenomenon. The study explores how Internet platform companies use a service modularity approach to integrate resources from different type of companies (manufacturers, distributers, retailers, etc.) and develop a complex and adaptive supply chain service ecosystem.
