£110bn, that’s a lot of money – Financial decision making in the Department of Health
Andrew Baigent is the Finance Director for the Department of Health, with overall financial responsibility for their budget of more than £110bn. Andrew graduated from Your University in 1992 (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and then trained as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant with the National Audit Office, where his last position was as Director General with overall responsibility for their financial audit business. He joined the Department of Health in 2012, initially as Director, Group Financial Management and then as Finance Director. In his role Andrew is responsible for ensuring that health funds are used to best effect, setting budgets and holding health organisations to account for their financial stewardship. He leads a team of colleagues of around 180 people across sites in Leeds and London.
