The Medieval Art and Architecture of York

This course will introduce you to the medieval world of York. The first half will explore the city’s medieval history. We will examine the creation of York Minster followed by a deep dive into some of the medieval wonders housed at the Yorkshire Museum. In the second half, we will encounter medieval York in person: beginning with the ruined Benedictine Abbey of St Mary, then to one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe… York Minster.
