Saturday 12 November 2022, 10.00AM to 4:30pm
Speaker(s): Peter Finch-Sieg PhD
Bruegel was perhaps the greatest Netherlandish painter of the sixteenth century, achieving immense fame in his own lifetime yet largely forgotten afterwards, until the twentieth century. Just over forty paintings survive, most of them hugely complex compositions, teeming with characters and their own extraordinary kind of life. This day course will offer an opportunity to consider the full range of his oeuvre - paintings, drawings and prints - and to place his work back into its original social, cultural and art-historical contexts.
