Saturday 4 March 2023, 10.00AM to 1.15pm

Speaker(s): Gillian Hovell BA ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’

Discover the world of Virgil’s ‘Aeneid’ and revel in his magnificent epic poem. Explore his life and the Augustan times he lived in. Chart the plot and read extracts (in translation with some Latin - fascinating, even if you know no Latin!) As we read, we will discover the heritage of epic poetry, the rich mythology with a pantheon of gods, the values and dreams of Augustus and the Roman psyche, his new Augustan Rome, and the re-marketing of Rome's past.
