Thursday 6 October 2022, 2.00PM to 4:00pm
Speaker(s): Cristina Figueredo BA MA PhD
Both Thomas Becket and William FitzHerbert were twelfth-century, ambitious and well educated men. Both were connected with the administration of the Kingdom. Both were elevated to the position of Archbishop. One was martyred at Canterbury, the other died in suspicious circumstances after officiating mass at York. Both were canonised. Miracles were recorded at both their shrines. This course will study the lives of Thomas of Canterbury and William of York comparatively, basing discussions on medieval documents and art.
