York and the Wars of the Three Edwards (1272-1377)

Tuesday 25 January 2022, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

Speaker(s): Gillian Waters MA PGDip PGCE

In 1296 Edward I, having already conquered Wales, invaded Scotland intent on conquest, and two years later moved his centre of government to York in order to have a military base closer to Scotland. Edward II unsuccessfully continued the Scottish Wars and in 1337 Edward III started the war with France known as the Hundred Years War. This course explores the wars of the three Edwards in Wales, Scotland and France, and the impact of these wars on the city of York and local families.
