York Minster’s Great East Window, the largest expanse of medieval stained and painted glass in the country, was created by John Thornton of Coventry. Its 311 panels represent the highest point of fifteenth- century glazing and bear witness to the genius of its creator. This course will study the Great East Window’s art and iconography, focusing especially on the artistic execution of the Apocalypse panels.
