The Domesday Book bears witness to an extraordinary fact: in twenty years after 1066, the whole of England changed hands, from Anglo-Saxon to Norman land ownership. How did this happen? This course will study the backdrop against which this dramatic transfer of land property occurred. By analysing the circumstances of the Norman Conquest and the constant rebellions that followed, it will elucidate how the Normans effectively became the owners of the country.
This course will be delivered via Zoom. Students joining the course will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet with a microphone (essential) and a webcam (desirable) as well as a reliable broadband connection.
