Classical Sculpture: Beauty and Power

Saturday 13 November 2021, 10.00AM to 1.15pm

Speaker(s): Gillian Hovell BA ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’

Classical Sculpture was born from the creations of the earliest artists. Our richly-illustrated course explores astonishing prehistoric art and then the magnificent innovation of the Egyptians and of the remarkable Archaic Greek craftsmen. From these rose the beauty of the Classical Greek works and the energy of the Hellenistic sculptors. In the west, the Etruscan skill was renowned and Rome would take sculpture to new levels of meaning. Join us for a journey through the origins of our art today.
