Beasts of Ebor: A History of Animals in York

York is famed for its rich archaeological history, from the Romans to the Vikings, and the medieval period to the present day. But alongside humans, animals have also always been a fundamental part of city life. From fish caught in the North Sea to cattle butchered on the Shambles; scavenging rats to the game birds for the Lord Mayor’s banquet, find out how the city’s diet and ecology has changed over the past two thousand years.
