The Anglo-Saxon Church: From Whitby to the Tenth-century Reform (second cohort)

Saturday 8 May 2021, 10.00AM to 1.00pm

Speaker(s): Cristina Figueredo BA MA PhD

The Synod of Whitby (664) marked the end of the Ionan liturgy in Northumbria. From then on, the Anglo-Saxon Church aligned with Rome. The Church would survive the Viking attacks and, in the tenth century, it would produce a revival that lasted until the Norman Conquest. This course will explore the religious aspects of life in England from the 7th to the 10th centuries. In addition, masterpieces of Anglo-Saxon art will illustrate the course.
