Medieval Scandals and (not very) Well Kept Secrets

This course will explore the secrets and scandals which medieval people tried, in vain, to hide. It will deal with Anglo-Saxon and Norman scandalous legends as well as with royal humiliating events. The course will also deal with the crimes perpetrated by the Church and the great judges of the land. It will explore the most scandalous love affair of medieval times and, finally, it will try to determine the extent to which magic and alchemy were considered scandalous.
