Roses are Red and White: Four of Yorkshire and Lancashire’s Finest Writers

Thursday 16 April 2020, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

Throughout history, the North of England has served as an inspirational environment for breeding literary talent. This course will focus on four very different, innovative and influential writers. From the emotional wisdom of York-born wordsmith WH Auden to the courageous personal narratives of Accrington’s Jeanette Winterson, and from the deadpan wit of Alan Bennett’s Leeds to the comic social realism of Marsden’s star poet, Simon Armitage, the course will explore how northern life experiences have produced literature of such quality.
