British Art of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries

In this course, we will look at different artistic genres and media of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Each week will introduce the oeuvre of some key British artists, from Thomas Gainsborough to Frederic Leighton, presenting how tendencies in art evolved as well as analysing some technical aspects of paintings and other artworks. A wide range of subjects and techniques, from landscape etchings to large-scale academic canvases, will be discussed to demonstrate a great diversity of British art over the two centuries.
