The Art of the Insular World: England, Scotland and Ireland (c.600-1000AD)

Tuesday 21 January 2020, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

This course will introduce you to the art of the Insular world (present day Ireland and Britain). This period saw radical economic, political and social changes and witnessed the meeting of pagan and Christian cultures. By examining the decoration of key examples of stone monuments, manuscripts and metalwork produced in the Insular world, we will consider the iconographic significance and identity (regional and social) of these objects and how this impacts on our understanding of the period.
