Representation and Identity: From Icons to the iPhone

Monday 20 January 2020, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

Images are everywhere. This course will challenge contemporary notions of the relationships between image, representation and meaning in a world where we can carry hundreds of images in our pocket. It investigates historical understandings of the ‘image’ and examines the ways in which these ideas have affected our ways of seeing the world today. Themes to be discussed include originality and reproduction, gender, digital media, urban space and the blurred boundaries of high and low culture.
