Saturday 14 March 2020, 10.00AM to 4.30pm
This course will focus on large-scale sculptures designed for public display outdoors and intended to be enjoyed by all. Together, we will discover hidden gems of nationally and internationally acclaimed public sculpture, in a range of media, that feature on British university campuses, including the University of York. We will explore their meanings, how they are made and their influence on culture and public well-being. You will learn about the creation of university sculpture parks from the twentieth century to the present day. It is anticipated that the course will include a guided walk to view artworks on campus.
