‘This Nation’s Saving Grace’: The Politics of Popular Culture in Post-War Britain

Wednesday 22 January 2020, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

Since 1945 British politics has changed dramatically, with technological innovation and changes in living standards revolutionising the way in which politicians and the masses interact. Rather than tracking these developments by focusing on traditional politics, this course will analyse them through a focus on popular culture. Making reference to culture in all its diversity, from music and literature to sport and television, together we will assess the different ways in which cultural actors have commented upon, and influenced, British political life.
