The Wars of the Three Edwards (1272-1377)

Thursday 23 January 2020, 7.00PM to 9.00pm

Edward I, 'Hammer of the Scots', conquered Wales, but his son Edward II was defeated in battle, faced internal divisions and was ultimately deposed by his wife Isabella and her lover. Edward III snatched power from his mother Isabella in 1330, and inherited her claim to the French throne which ultimately led to the outbreak of the Hundred Years War in 1337. This course will explore the wars of the three Edwards in Wales, Scotland and France, and the impact of these wars on government and society.
