As a symbol of the power and status of a Lord Mayor, there is no greater statement than building a Mansion House. The Mansion House in York was the very first permanent civic residence built for a Lord Mayor and London’s Mansion House was modelled on the building in York. This day course explores where mayors lived before the Mansion House was built and why the decision was taken to build a Mansion House, as well as exploring how funds were raised and the building of the Mansion House itself. It is anticipated that this course will be held at the King’s Manor.
