The British and French Campaigns in Egypt and Syria (1798-1801)

Saturday 26 October 2019, 10.00AM to 4.30pm

The campaigns fought against Napoleon in Germany, Italy, Portugal, Russia and Spain have been studied in exhaustive detail, yet the history of fighting in the Middle East during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars has often been forgotten. This course will examine the remarkable sequence of dramatic advances and reverses experienced by both sides in the Middle East. We will discuss the profound military and cultural impact of these campaigns on both Britain and France.
