Markets and Fairs Over Eight Centuries

Saturday 26 October 2019, 10.00AM to 4.30pm

Markets and fairs have formed part of English life for centuries but how much do we know about their development? Using extracts from historical documents, we will explore markets and fairs from early written records such as Domesday Book and market charters across the early modern period and into the modern era. We will explore markets and fairs across England but focus particularly on examples from Yorkshire. It is anticipated that this course will be held at the King’s Manor.
