In the first half of the twentieth century, Europe tore itself apart twice. What were the socio-cultural conditions that caused these violent convulsions? Was the direction of Europe in this period shaped exclusively by politicians, or was there something profoundly wrong with European society as a whole? Examining landmark events such as the Spanish Civil War and the Holocaust alongside less widely known aspects of European history, this module will answer these questions and more.
