Mystic, visionary, romantic, rebel, painter and poet, Blake created a world of voices that raged against tyranny, that proclaimed freedom and sought justice, and occasionally saw salamanders in the fireplace and angels hanging from the tree boughs. He wrote in a time of revolutionary upheaval in Europe and America and we will consider his poetry in historical context. An original and an enigma, Blake rewards the effort it takes to see the world, or a corner of it, from his extraordinary viewpoint.
