British Art in the 1930s

Saturday 12 May 2018, 10.00AM to 4.30pm

Enrol and pay online

The Thirties were catch-up time for Britain. Curious and adventurous artists, designers and architects who had been feeling their way in the shadow of the Great War now found new confidence. This was fed by closer connections with European modernists. We will focus on Moore, Hepworth, Nicholson, Nash, Holden, Wells Coates, Lubetkin and Isokon. We will explore how they interconnect with wider international trends and how much their ideas reflect the peculiar concerns of the British avant-garde.
