Villa Malfitano and the Whitaker Collections, Palermo

Saturday 3 February 2018, 10.00AM to 1.00pm

Enrol and pay online

Joseph Isaac Spadafora Whitaker (known as Pip) was the descendent of a rich entrepreneurial West Yorkshire family which had successfully established itself in Sicily, manufacturing and exporting Marsala wine. A keen ornithologist, zealous archaeologist and avid collector, in 1886 Joseph Whitaker commissioned the building of Villa Malfitano, testimony to the vibrant atmosphere of ‘the golden age of Palermo’ at the end of the nineteenth century. We will look behind the façade of this splendid villa, exploring in detail its interiors and furnishings, its eclectic collections, and its gardens.
