The Architect Ernesto Basile and his Clients (Cancelled)

The architect Ernesto Basile (1857-1932), one of the major exponents of the Italian art nouveau, is best known for designing and furnishing the residential houses of a group of dynamic and forward-thinking Sicilian entrepreneurs of his period. This course will explore Basile’s prolific architectural projects, his designs for interiors and furnishings and his collaboration with clients and local craftsmen. We will also examine how artistic precedents and the modernist cultural milieu influenced the work of this eclectic architect.
