Pavements are the ‘downtrodden Cinderella’ of heritage sites and art history. Frequently overlooked, they have suffered from years of physical and academic neglect. Yet tiles are perhaps the most widespread of all medieval art forms to survive. This course aims to equip you with the basic knowledge you need to identify and understand medieval tiles. It will ultimately demonstrate that history really is at your feet.
