Once the richest abbey in the north of England, its ruins now delight every visitor of the Museum Gardens. This course, held at the King’s Manor, will explore the history of the Abbey of St Mary, from its foundation in 1088 to the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII, focusing on the major role that the abbey had in the history of York, and exploring its ruins in order to study the monastic buildings layout in situ.
