Long before Versailles, the Burgundian courts were the most glamorous in Europe. In Bruges, the confluence of international politics and intercontinental trade attracted anyone who wanted to be anyone in the fifteenth century, from merchants and courtiers to artists and spies. Modern Bruges is still full of medieval heritage and continues to fascinate visitors.
