The Vikings have a reputation for being bloodthirsty seafaring warriors, who plundered Britain and other North Atlantic countries in the early Middle Ages. However, they have also been traders, farmers, poets, artists, and settlers. This course will explore the Vikings’ history, society and culture, through the study of contemporary documents and the latest archaeological finds in Britain, Scandinavia, Iceland and Greenland.
