Industry, Trade and Society: c.1730 to The Great Exhibition of 1851

Wednesday 24 January 2018, 1.00PM to 3.00pm

A period of revolution sparked by the impact of industrialisation and trading; a climate of reason and opportunity: Enlightenment! We shall explore kaleidoscopic changes which rapidly affected the ‘face’ of England. The response and ‘lot’ of those involved in new experiences of a novel era shall reveal a rich tapestry of life as observed among the rich and poor, agrarian and industrial communities, the healthy and sick, whilst not being unaware of the politics and power of a new social stratum created under the terms of the Reform Act of 1832.
