Please note this date is now fully booked. Register online for the second cohort on 10 March 2018

Bede has been celebrated as the first English historian; however, his scientific interests and achievements can be traced in much of his writing. The Reckoning of Time is the earliest comprehensive treatment of measuring time and constructing a Christian calendar. The book includes an explanation of how the Earth was a sphere. On the Nature of Things is a survey of cosmology; Bede reads the cosmos from the heavens, through the atmosphere, to the oceans and rivers of earth. This course will study Bede’s scientific work, within its historical context.
