Saturday 25 November 2017, 10.00AM to 4.30pm
This session introduces some of the practical skills needed to conduct historical research, especially in a local history context. It will cover eighteenth- and nineteenth-century palaeography; document handling skills; oral history techniques, technologies, ethics and copyright considerations; and effective digitisation methods to produce usable and well-presented images of historic documents suitable for research. The course will be hands-on and interactive, and aims to give students the confidence to work with a variety of primary source materials.
