University study spaces

There are a variety of places to study across the University.

To book group study rooms, please use the Timetabling Service's Student Booking Form. Many teaching/seminar rooms may be booked by students when they're not in use for teaching.

General study spaces



Alcuin Bistro

Access is available at the following times:

  • Monday - Friday: after 4pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: all day

Please avoid peak mealtime service periods.

Alcuin Porters will provide access if it is locked.

Berrick Saul building

Postgraduate Study Area

Study space for arts and humanities PhD and MA students, accessible 24 hours a day via Onity Card.

Information Room

Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm during term-time.

Desk space, easy chairs and supported PCs are available.


Dining Hall

24 hour access.

Please avoid peak mealtime and bar service periods.

The Courtyard

Monday - Friday: 10am - 11pm

Saturday & Sunday: midday - late


Graduate Common Room

Next to JJs Common Room, is available to any Halifax College member.

Provost's Classroom

First floor of Halifax College Management Building, when not booked out, available to any Halifax College member.


Roger Kirk Centre balcony

Monday – Friday: 8.30am – 5pm

Soft seating, wifi access and additional electrical sockets for laptops.

Please avoid midday - 2pm and peak mealtime and bar service periods.



Open 24 hours, has a couple of PCs and is available as a study area when not booked out.

The Glasshouse

24 hours access. Bar is closed during vacations.

Law and Management


Monday - Friday: 9.15am - 6.15pm

Designed to provide a touch-down and social learning space. Caffe Society coffee bar is open Monday - Friday, 8.30am – 4pm (term time).


Throughout the Library

Ron Cooke Hub

Throughout the Hub

24-hour access.

Study decks on first and second floor with networked PCs.

3 Study Pods (suitable for 6, 12 and 18 people).

The Pods are bookable through Planon or via the Hub Business Office when not in use.

Dozens of additional study spaces and supported PCs are available in seminar and teaching rooms when not in use for booked activities.

Space for serious collaborative group study and collaboration on the Island of Interaction.

YUSU building


Open 8.30am - 8pm during term time, 10am - 5pm outside of term time.

Note that this space may occasionally be booked for meetings.
