Guidance, support and training
All researchers have a responsibility to properly manage the data they create/collect during the course of their research. The management of research data is sufficiently important that many research funders, and the University, have requirements for how it is managed.
The Open Research team is here to help. If you have any questions, want to know more, or if you want us to talk about RDM with groups of staff/postgraduate researchers in your department, email us: lib-open-research@york.ac.uk

UKRI good research resource hub
UKRI's good research resource hub brings together policies, standards and guidance to support researchers.
'Guidance on best practice in the management of research data' is listed under open research. This guidance provides clarity on Research Council expectations, information on research data costs and guidelines on data management plans.
Recording datasets in PURE
You need to record any datasets you want to retain beyond the end of your project in PURE. PURE dataset records are discoverable through the York Research Database, providing a permanent and public record of the University's (retained) data.
For guidance view our How do I record and deposit research datasets in PURE?
DMP review service
The Open Research team offers a data management plan review service, where we will review and provide feedback on your plan before you submit it.
To use the service, email your plan to lib-open-research@york.ac.uk or select Request feedback in DMPonline. Please allow at least five working days before your submission deadline.
DMPonline
Planning is key to the successful management of research data. DMPonline, a free web-based tool provided by the DCC, can help you create effective data management plans. It provides funder templates (including UKRI) and the York DMP template, detailed guidance to help you write your plan, and features such as sharing and export options.
View our DMPonline user guide [Google Doc] for guidance on using the tool.
