Design and Print Solutions

For the following services, please contact Design and Print Solutions, the University printing service:

  • Advertising and publishing events, eg posters and flyers
  • Lecture notes
  • Projects, essays, theses
  • Overhead transparencies
  • Colour copies onto A4 paper (originals can be reduced or enlarged as appropriate)
  • Copies made on photographic paper

We can digitise a range of different material and are happy to talk to you about your requirements.

The following information will help us tailor our service to your needs:

  • What is the nature of the material to be digitised? Is it a book, photographs, loose documents, large maps or plans? Are they unique or published documents?
  • How many items are there (and if a book, how many pages)?

  • What condition are the documents in? If the documents are fragile this may impact on our handling of them and the digitisation methodology
  • Do you have any specific requirements regarding file format or resolution of the digital copies?
  • Do you have the creator's or rights-holder's permission to copy this material? Perhaps it's your own work. Or if the creator died more than 70 years ago, it may be out of copyright.

Email the details to for a quote.

Large format books

The Library has launched a digitisation service for books that are too large to be scanned using the York Print Plus machines.

Students and staff can now submit a request for electronic copies from any book larger than A3. These scanned sections will then be delivered to you as pdf files unless otherwise specified.

To submit a request, please take your selected book to the Help Desk and complete a request form.

Files will be sent by email or via the University DropOff Service (for large files) within three working days (Mon-Fri).

  • There is currently no charge for this service
  • Digitisation is only available for books larger than A3
  • Photocopying is not included in the service
  • Only digital copies will be provided.
