We need your Library books back before you graduate!

Posted on 20 May 2021

If you’re graduating this summer you’ll need to return your University of York Library books before you finish. Whether you’re able to get to campus or you’re studying remotely, you can do this entirely for free.

Returning your books on campus

The Library on Campus West remains open for you to return your books as normal using the self-service return point inside the Library. During the University exam period we are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From Monday 7 June we will be open from 8am to midnight daily. There are three additional book drop locations on campus where you can return Library books:

  • Outside the Morrell Library on Campus West (available 24/7)
  • Inside the Ron Cooke Hub on Campus East (available 24/7)
  • At King’s Manor Library (available 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday)

You don’t need to book in advance to return books to any of the above locations. We will empty the book drops regularly, but don’t worry if the items don’t get removed from your account immediately; you won’t receive any fines.

Returning your books through the post

You can also return your books using our free postal returns options:

  • If you’re based in the UK you can use our Royal Mail Tracked Returns service.
  • If you’re returning books from overseas you can apply for a refund of postal charges.

You can find more information about each of these options on our Book Takeaway web page. When your items arrive at the Library, we will remove them from your Library Account. Don’t worry if your items are slightly delayed in the post; we will backdate the return to the date of postage.

Please contact us if you have any questions about returning items or would like to discuss your particular circumstances. Good luck for whatever you have planned next!
