An update from King’s Manor Library

As work continues to redevelop King’s Manor Library, here’s an update about what’s happening over the next couple of months and how you can get involved.

What’s happening with the King’s Manor collections?

The collections from King’s Manor Library have been temporarily relocated to the Morrell Library. We’re now busy doing lots of processing work on the books ready for them to be returned to King’s Manor in a new layout in September; you can read more below about our anticipated timeline for the next couple of months. King’s Manor Library currently remains open for study space bookings, and you are able to request daily book delivery to King’s Manor as before.

Help us to choose the new King’s Manor Library furniture

We know you’ve been waiting with bated breath to see our plans for the new Library furniture! In order to support us in making our final decisions, we’d really appreciate your help. We’ve heard back from suppliers with a range of styles to match our design brief and would like your feedback about the options available to us. Please complete this form to tell us your thoughts (UoY login required). The form will close at 9am on Monday 23 August, after which we’ll use your feedback to guide our final selection.

We also intend to provide an opportunity for you to try out some of the possible chair designs, as we appreciate it’s hard to choose from just a picture. We’re working with suppliers to determine what sample furniture they have available and will confirm soon what will be possible.

What happens next?

After we close the furniture feedback on Monday 23 August, we intend to make our final selection and to place our order with suppliers as soon as possible. Due to lead times for delivery it won’t be possible to have the new furniture ready for the start of the new academic year. We didn’t want to rush the selection process, so instead we intend for the new furniture to be delivered before the start of the Spring 2022 term. Here is our full anticipated timeline for the next couple of months, which as always might be subject to change:

  • Late August: we make our final selection of furniture and place an order with our suppliers. Once this is confirmed we will provide a further update about what we’ve chosen and how the new layout will be arranged.
  • Early September: we reconfigure the existing furniture based on where we expect the shelving to be located.
  • Week beginning Monday 13 September: King’s Manor Library closes for the duration of this week in order for us to replace the shelving and to return the majority of the book stock. The Library Reception will be closed and there will be no book delivery service during this week. Some stock will remain at the Morrell for a little longer awaiting the installation of new mobile shelving on the ground floor.
  • Late September: the Library reopens in time for the start of the new academic year, with study space and the majority of the book stock available as normal.
  • Christmas vacation: we expect the new furniture and mobile shelving to be delivered at this time, but we will provide more detail about this nearer the time.
