Library services will continue during the lockdown period

Posted on 2 November 2020

The UK Government has announced a national lockdown with increased restrictions until at least 2 December. We know you’ll be wondering how this impacts the library and we would like to reassure you that, for the time being at least, the Library and Archives buildings on Campus West and at King's Manor remain open for study space and access to physical resources. However the Minster Library will close from 5 November; appointments and Minster collections will be unavailable during this time. We'll let you know as soon as it reopens.

From Monday 9 November all of our study spaces will be 2m socially distanced (previously there have been 1m versions bookable for half-days) which will mean a reduction in our total capacity, but otherwise we’re not anticipating any changes at this time to any of our services.

Please keep checking for updates from both the University and the Library and Archives should the situation change: the best places to do that are the Library News feed, our Twitter feed, and our Facebook page

As always, we need your help in keeping the library as Covid-secure as possible. Please help us by:

  • not visiting the Library and Archives if you’re self-isolating (remember you can use our campus delivery which is part of the Book Takeaway Service, if you’re isolating)
  • booking your Library study space in advance or booking an appointment to visit the Borthwick Institute for Archives
  • wearing your face covering at all times inside the Library and Archives buildings. We can provide you with a face covering if you have forgotten yours
  • ensuring that you adhere to social distancing guidelines and pay close attention to the signage around the buildings
  • washing your hands regularly and using hand sanitiser at the stations at numerous points around the building
  • wiping down study spaces before and after use with the cleaning materials provided.

Thank you for your help in keeping the Library and Archives a safe environment for everyone. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
