Easter borrowing, opening, & SCONUL access

Posted on 12 March 2018

Over the Easter vacation you can continue to borrow items for the normal length of time, but recall periods will be longer. If you're away from the University, the SCONUL access scheme allows you to use resources at other universities.

From Saturday 17 March and throughout the Easter vacation, our flexible loans system will operate as follows:

  • 7 days to return an item
  • 7 days to collect an item
  • 7 days borrowing period if there is a queue of requests
  • No items will be due for return over the Easter weekend (Friday 30 March to Monday 1 April inclusive)

Note that the flexible loans service applies to all loan items, with the exception of Key Texts.

Recalls and due dates

All items are subject to recall throughout the vacation. If an item is recalled during the vacation, you don't have to visit us to return it. Post it back to us, and we'll use the date of posting as the return date. Please get in touch if you have a problem or question:

Outstanding charges?

If you have charges on your account of more than £20, you should pay them by 7pm on Thursday 29 March to ensure that you can still borrow and renew items over the Easter weekend. Online payments will not be processed between 7pm on Thursday 29 March and 9am Tuesday 3 April.

Easter opening hours

The University Library (Morrell, Fairhurst and Burton buildings) will be open 24 hours a day over the Easter vacation. We're offering self-service over the Easter weekend. You'll need your Library card to enter the building as normal.

The King's Manor Library will be open 9am - 5pm during the vacation, but will be closed on Saturday and Sundays. It will also be closed on Friday 30 March to Monday 2 April inclusive for the Easter weekend.

The York Minster Library will be closed between Friday 30 March and Monday 2 April inclusive.

Book Delivery Service

There will be no deliveries between Friday 30 April and Monday 2 April inclusive.

Using libraries at other universities

The SCONUL access scheme enables you to use the resources of other university libraries over the vacation on production of your University card. If you're an undergraduate, you can use the libraries for reference. If you're a postgraduate, you may also be able to borrow items. Find out more:
