Summer borrowing, opening hours & SCONUL access

Posted on 23 June 2017

Over the Summer vacation you can continue to borrow items for eight weeks, however, recall periods will be longer. If you're away from the University, the SCONUL access scheme allows you to use resources at other universities.

Borrowing

During the Summer vacation (from Saturday 24 June onwards), our flexible loans system will operate as follows:

  • 7 days to return an item if a request is placed
  • 7 days to collect an item once returned
  • 7 days borrowing period if there is a queue of requests

Note that the flexible loans service applies to all loan items, with the exception of Key Texts.

During July and August, we give you longer to return requested items, and borrow in demand items:

  • 14 days to return an item if a request is placed
  • 14 days borrowing period if there is a queue of requests

Recalls and due dates

All items are subject to recall at any time throughout the vacation. If an item is recalled, you don't have to visit us to return it. Post it back to us, and we'll use the date of posting as the return date. Please get in touch if you have a problem or question:

Summer opening hours

The University Library will be open 24/7 during the Summer vacation, but full service hours will be shorter:

The King's Manor Library will be open:

  • Monday - Friday: 9am - 5pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: closed

Using other university libraries

The SCONUL access scheme enables you to use the resources of other university libraries over the vacation on production of your University card. If you're an undergraduate, you can use the libraries for reference. If you're a postgraduate, you may also be able to borrow items. Find out more:
