During the Christmas vacation, our flexible loans system will operate as follows:
Note that the flexible loans service applies to all loan items, with the exceptions of Key Texts.
All items are subject to recall throughout the vacation, but we don't use due dates between 21 December 2015 and 3 January 2016 inclusive: items that would otherwise have become due within those dates will be due for return on 4 January 2016 to accommodate the holiday period.
If an item is recalled during the vacation, you don't have to visit us to return it. Post it back to us, and we'll use the date of posting as the return date. If your item is due back on 4 January, it's best to return it in person when you get back to campus – the post can be slow over Christmas.
Please get in touch if you have a problem or question, but remember there won't be any responses to phone or email enquiries between 25 December and 3 January inclusive:
The University Library will be closed:
The King's Manor Library will be closed:
Between Christmas and New Year, the University Library will be open self-service only.
From 9am on Thursday 24 December, you'll need your University card to enter the Library whenever you want to visit. If you've forgotten your card, or if you're not a member of the University please ask for help at Reception. This is a permanent change - for more information see:
Full service hours will resume from 10am on Saturday 2 January.
Libraries will be open as normal during the rest of the vacation:
The last delivery to King's Manor and the Minster Library will be made on the morning of Tuesday 22 December and requests should be made by 4pm on Monday 21 December. The delivery service will resume again on Monday 4 January for any items requested between 24 December to 4 January.
Subject guides and e-resources
You can still access ejournals, databases and ebooks while you're away from campus, through the Library website. Subject guides give you information about key online resources for your subject.
Using other university libraries
The SCONUL access scheme enables you to use the resources of other university libraries over the vacation, on production of your University card. If you're an undergraduate, you can use the libraries for reference. If you're a postgraduate, you may also be able to borrow items. Find out more:
