Inside Out: Medical Illustration at York

Posted on 1 September 2014

Inside Out: Medical Illustration at York is the latest exhibition from Special Collections.

Image from Myographia Nova, or, a description of all the muscles in [the]
humane body, as they arise in dissection written by royal surgeon John Browne in 1697

The exhibition coincides with the 500th anniversary of the birth of anatomist Andrea Vesalius and looks at anatomical drawings charting the depiction of the human body from the 16th to the 20th century.

Most of the books in this exhibition come from the collection of the York Medical Society housed in Special Collections.

The display can be found in the cases in the Harry Fairhurst Building corridor on the ground floor and will be in place until 17 December 2014.
