Create an ORCID iD at ORCID.org

For information about PURE see the Welcome to PURE webpages.

For academic and research staff, the most effective way to create your ORCID iD and make sure it is associated with your research outputs and activities is to create an iD in PURE.

If you do not have a PURE profile then you can still get the benefits of ORCID by creating an iD at orcid.org

How to create your iD at orcid.org

1. Go to the ORCID homepage.

2. Click Register now!

Register now link

3. Complete the registration form. You will be asked for an email address, to create a password, and to set your default visibility setting. You will also be asked to set the frequency of any notifications. Click on Register to complete the process.

4. You will be prompted by ORCID to add further profile information.

It's up to you how much personal information you choose to add into ORCID - you can get the benefits of an ORCID iD without entering further information.

It is recommended that you enter details about your institutional affiliation (+Add Employment if you are a member of staff, + Add Education if you are a student) - this helps other researchers who may be searching for you on ORCID. A second email address can also help you access your ORCID record if you move institution.

If you wish to use ORCID to promote your professional profile, you can also add information on your research outputs (Works). ORCID provides a number of Link Works tools that enable you to import information from sources such as Web of Sciences and Scopus.

Once you have created your ORCID iD you can add it to your email signature and any other professional profile sites. You will get the chance to use your ORCID iD throughout your research activities, including submitting work for publication or applying for research funding.

The Welcome to ORCID pages provide further information on getting the most from ORCID. You can also contact the Open Research Team (email lib-open-research@york.ac.uk) for assistance.
