Barbara Hutton Collection

The collection

The Barbara Hutton Collection comprises 117 items and includes books and pamphlets on architecture in Britain. A large part of the collection is specifically on vernacular architecture. The books complement the Teulon Porter Collection.

The collector

Barbara Hutton (1920-2015) was the founder of the journal 'Vernacular Architecture' and former President of the Yorkshire Vernacular Architecture Group. Barbara Hutton lived in York until 1986 and donated her collection of books to the University.


The collection came to the University Library in 2008.


The collection is currently held at the King's Manor Library due to its focus on architecture.
